How to upgrade to Business Central
Okay, you need to move to a new system - now what?
Maybe you have become fond of Business Central. You've discovered the benefits, and you know it's time to say goodbye to your old financial system. But maybe you're afraid that upgrading to Business Central is time-consuming and complicated.
Fortunately, there's no need to be nervous – it's no more difficult than moving from one house to another. And you've probably tried that before. It's just about knowing how much you want to bring to the new house – and how much you want to make yourself.
Imagine that you have lived in an older 70's detached house for a number of years, where you have decorated it exactly as you like it. You have continuously adjusted the house; Maybe you've moved a wall or made a new kitchen. And even though it's old and it may take a long time to warm up in winter, it's a safe and familiar place to live.
The concept behind your upgrade to Business Central is a bit the same. You have to get used to something new. But on the other hand, you don't have to worry about a leaking roof or an expensive electricity bill.
Business Central is your new tract house
Consider Business Central as a tract house. You know what you're getting, and the house has already been tested by others – and it works. You can't decide where your kitchen should be, but you can add features to your solution so that it turns out exactly as you want.
In Dynamics NAV, for example, we would normally change the base code to make extra features and integrations, but in Business Central, we add extensions that are outside the system. It also means that it's much easier to upgrade your version of Business Central to a newer version.
The great thing about Business Central is that it's extensible, so this move will probably be your last.
